Five seniors on both the journalism and strategic communications side will be recognized on Friday, April 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms at our Spring Honors Ceremony.
On Saturday, April 23, a contingent of students from the College of Media will participate in a massive disaster drill being conducted by the West Virginia National Guard, the governor’s office, WV Homeland Security, state police, bureau of prisons, highways department at Camp Dawson in Preston County, WV.
The disaster – a major one including loss of life—will not be real, but the response by all of these agencies will be as real as they can make it. As they respond, they want to deal with press questions and coverage of what happens.

Tackling issues around food and class, award-winning journalist and author Tracie McMillan examines these issues in her New York Times best-seller, “The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee’s, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table.”
Next month, McMillan will visit West Virginia University to discuss her experiences working undercover in the food industry. Her presentation, “Labor, Economics and Politics: How the Working Poor Eats,” will be Friday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center North, Room 1905. There will be a book signing immediately following McMillan’s presentation.
The new position was created by Vice President of Student Life Bill Schafer as part of an initiative to enhance the operations and services of WVU’s student-run radio station and newspaper, WWVU-FM and The Daily Athenaeum, respectively. The appointment is effective March 21.
As director, Crowe will report to Corey Farris, associate vice president of student life, and will serve as the chief operational officer responsible for strategic planning, fiscal, logistical and legal operations for each student media outlet. She will work with Student Life and other university constituents to drive new, cutting-edge initiatives to help push student media forward in support of institutional objectives.
HelpWELL is looking for an outstanding, upperclassmen or graduate student to work with us on the WELLWVU Carruth Center suicide prevention and awareness grant, the HelpWELL Program. The position is part time with flexibility in work schedule hours (some evening work required).
