Creative agency in St. Louis seeks intern

Hughes has an immediate opening for a PR intern. The position will begin immediately and go through the summer session. It is a full-time, paid position. Job duties for the intern include:

  • Process electronic and hard copy clips and create clip reports for client service reports – includes downloading print clips and creating a spreadsheet listing all online clips with links, sorting them by client and sometimes additional criteria, as well as coordinating any incorrect or missing clips with the clip services. Also includes sorting hard copies of local clips to route through the office.
  • Prepare clip CDs and clip reports for billing– includes developing clip reports for clients (currently 10 reports for Dot Foods and one for Murphy), burning CDs for all clipping clients and mailing them.
  • Process news releases, distributing to local, regional and national media – includes e-mailing/faxing the release to news outlets based on a form and Excel spreadsheet provided by the PR manager; preparing the release for e-mail distribution; posting the release to Hughes Web site and Twitter/Facebook as appropriate; and updating databases with any incorrect journalist information.
  • Conduct Internet and other research – includes researching various opportunities for clients.
  • Complete writing assignments as required – includes writing personnel releases, bios, media advisories, general news releases, newsletter articles, radio spots, pitch letters and other PR materials.
  • Maintain master editorial calendar and assist in calendar development – includes collecting and inputting publication editorial calendars into our master editorial calendar, which is coded by client; also includes researching opportunities for specific projects and developing a one-time editorial calendar.
  • Develop national media lists – includes using our national database, BurrellesLuce, to select appropriate contacts at media outlets and doing additional research on media Web sites to develop a list that can be exported in Excel.
  • Prepare photos for release distribution – includes uploading photos to Flickr and creating a custom URL that can be easily typed into a browser by media who prefer faxed information.
  • Prepare weekly Safety National clip report – includes downloading/checking all Safety National clips every Monday and preparing a weekly report.
  • Edit materials prepared by other staff members – includes editing for AP Style, news value and typos.
  • Pitch story ideas/events to media – includes developing pitch letters/materials and contacting print and broadcast media outlets via phone and e-mail; may also include coordinating client interviews.
  • Maintain local and national media databases – includes updating our local database by compiling updates from our local database service and updating our local distribution list.
  • Complete special projects/assignments
  • Participate in client brainstorming sessions – includes generating ideas for various clients.
