Sponsored by The Fund for American Studies in partnership with Georgetown University, Capital Semester – Political Journalism Track combines substantive journalism internships, courses for academic credit, professional development activities, site briefings and lectures led by working journalists. Capital Semester combines hands-on professional experience in the journalism or communications field for 25 hours a week with a challenging academic experience. This fast-paced, residential program provides students from around the world with the opportunities to gain an edge in today’s competitive job market and graduate school admissions, and experience the excitement of Washington first-hand.
The winner of the scholarship will be flown to Ecuador from their country of residence. They will join their mentor and team from Gap Adventures to explore the Amazonian jungle and homestay with the Quichua community. The winner’s mission is to document how sustainable tourism has impacted the small indigenous community.
Applicants for the scholarship must compile a 3 minute (or less) video documentary in English based around the theme ‘Local Encounters’.

Community service, late-night brainstorming sessions and creative thinking have paid off for members of two WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism student organizations.
Last month, the WVU Ad Club took second place at the American Advertising Federation’s regional competition. In addition, WVU’s chapter of Ed on Campus, a group that focuses on magazine writing, was recently named Best Established Chapter by its parent organization, Ed2010.
This position will report directly to the Assistant Director – Communications at the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) headquarters, located at Ridgeview Business Park in Morgantown, W.Va.
Primary responsibilities will be to assist the Communications Department with all activities, including database development and maintenance, writing, copywriting, newsletter publications, proofreading/editing, web site development, the design and development of brochures and other printed collateral pieces, special events and many other special projects. Other responsibilities include assisting with any administrative functions of the NAFTC Headquarters. There will also be assignments on occasion made from the other Assistant Directors, as well as the Executive Director.
