Writers wanted to lead workshops for teens in Southwestern PA schools

Position Description:

Southwestern Pennsylvania Writers of the Future invites dynamic and talented writers to apply for part-time positions leading weekly writing workshops for teens in local schools. Each successful candidate will conduct a one-hour workshop weekly in a high school or middle school in Greene, Fayette, or Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will meet with a class of no more than 25 students for one class period a week (19 meetings) beginning in mid-January 2011 and concluding at the end of May 2011. The writer chosen will provide writing instruction and feedback to students as well as help the classroom teacher design and develop follow-up activities.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to engage teens and empower them as writers
  • Publication (poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, or journalism)
  • BA or BS (MA or MFA preferred)
  • Teaching experience is desirable
  • Clearances to work in public schools as required by the state of Pennsylvania

The applicant will also be required to attend at least one training session and deliver a demonstration lesson.
