ChildVoice International seeks Marketing Communications Intern

Who we are: ChildVoice International is a Christian organization seeking to restore the voices of children silenced by war. ChildVoice International’s programs recognize that someone must speak for the thousands of children rendered voiceless by unspeakable brutality and unimaginable inhumanity. ChildVoice acts on the conviction that children broken by war can be restored in safe communities with loving care, spiritual and emotional counseling, and effective education and vocational training. The children served by ChildVoice International and partnering grassroots organizations include former child soldiers, children orphaned by war, and those left destitute by rebel activity.

Job Description: Internships vary in length from 10 to 12 weeks and are available three times throughout the year – spring, summer, and fall. Anyone 18 years or older who has completed at least one year of college may apply. All internships are unpaid. Interns may be eligible to receive college credit.

ChildVoice International is quickly expanding in northern Uganda. A variety of needs and positions exist at the Lukome Centre, Punena Health Clinic, Lukodi Primary School, and the agricultural property at Kulubel. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, adult and child education, psycho-social rehabilitation, community health, spiritual leadership and development, income generating projects, microfinance, art, physical and occupational therapy, administrative and organizational tasks, and agriculture. Further, internships are available to execute primary grassroots research that guides ChildVoice in monitoring and evaluating progress toward its mission.

As ChildVoice continues to grow as an international organization, there is an increasing need for an intern to lead marketing and communication efforts on the ground in northern Uganda. The Marketing Communications Intern would help to create key print and social marketing materials such as a monthly newsletter, a biannual magazine and regular blog and video blog posts; assist in fundraising efforts; conduct research and present recommendations for organizational growth and development.

The Marketing Communications Intern would have the opportunity to

Create awareness and understanding of a social cause among target audiences
Propose and develop sustainable marketing strategies
Contribute to the growth of an international organization
Act as a liaison between the U.S. and Uganda offices on all matters of communication

A former SOJ student recently interned with ChildVoice International and had this to say about the program: “It is very different than the typical experience, but it has been amazing for me…it was definitely life-changing and a very rewarding way to put my skills to use.”

The internship program fee for this location is approximately $3950 for a 12-week term. The program fee includes housing, meals, local transportation, and basic program costs.
This fee does not include airfare to and from Uganda. To help ensure a smooth arrival and departure, ChildVoice will coordinate and purchase all flights. ChildVoice staff will do their best
to find the cheapest and shortest flights. To help you plan, please consider that the cost of flights will range from $1700 to $2200. Interns will be responsible for the total of the program fee and their flights.

Qualifications: Applicant must be 18 years or older. We are looking to recruit students who have completed one year of school and are currently enrolled. As this is a Marketing Communications Internship, we are also looking for students who are majoring in this area (Majors may include Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, News Editorial, etc.)
Application Instructions: Applications for summer internship must be received by April 25, 2011. Applications for fall internship must be received by July 1, 2011. Send resumes via email. Please fill out the Application for Interning Abroad (http://childvoiceintl.org/takeaction/intern/) and send by mail or email; also, send in 3 reference letters by mail.
