The Capital Semester Program-Political Journalism Track is sponsored by The Fund for American Studies and held each fall and spring in Washington, DC. This academic internship program is for undergraduates seeking to obtain professional experience in the fields of journalism, communications and public relations. Students are placed in internships for 30 hours a week while earning 12 transferable credits from Georgetown University. The Institute combines career development activities, site briefings and lectures led by working journalists. This fast-paced, fifteen-week residential program provides students from around the world with opportunities to gain the edge in today’s competitive job market and graduate school admissions, and experience the excitement of Washington first-hand.

Amizade Global Service-Learning, a nonprofit organization in partnership with WVU to empower individuals and communities through intercultural service and learning, is seeking two highly advanced, professionally responsible and academically engaged students for the following positions: WVU Marketing, Outreach, and Event Planning Intern and WVU Office and Program Coordinator Intern. Each of the positions will be filled by a highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated relevant skills.
Interns will gain skill sets and insight relevant to the daily operations of a small and growing global nonprofit social enterprise organization with operations in 9 countries and 14 communities around the world. More information on each particular position follows below. Interns are expected to work 20 hours per week.
Congratulations to the 2011 SOJ Golden Quill Teaching Award winners. Dr. Jensen Moore won for the top faculty member and Cathy Bonnstetter won for top instructor. The winners were announced Friday, April 2, at the SOJ Spring Honors Ceremony in 205 Martin Hall. Dr. Moore is the Director of Online Undergraduate Programs and an assistant professor in advertising at the SOJ. Bonnstetter teaches media writing and is a stringer for The State Journal. This is the third year for the Golden Quill Teaching Award at the SOJ. The awards – based solely on student nominations – recognize outstanding teaching, mentoring, and advising in the SOJ.

This position will report directly to the Assistant Director – Communications at the NAFTC headquarters, located at Ridgeview Business Park.
Working daily with the NAFTC’s Communications Specialists, the Communications GA’s primary responsibilities will be to assist the Communications Department with all activities, including database development and maintenance, writing, copywriting, newsletter publications, proofreading/editing, website development, the design and development of brochures and other printed collateral pieces, special events and many other special projects. Other responsibilities include assisting with any administrative functions of the NAFTC Headquarters. There will also be assignments on occasion made from the other Assistant Directors, as well as the Executive Director.
