SOJ professor, former AP Bureau Chief recalls the Fall of Saigon

Dr. George Esper, Ogden Newspapers Visiting Professor of Journalism, shares his memories of April 30, 1975, when South Vietnam surrendered to North Vietnam after more than 10 years of war. Esper’s story was featured in Saigon’s Tuoi Tre newspaper this week with the help of former graduate student Hong Van Pham Thi who now works for the paper. Of his 42 years with the Associated Press, Esper spent 10 years covering Vietnam. He has been teaching at the School of Journalism since 2000.
