Graduate Assistant – Marketing and Communication Coordinator

WELLWVU Wellness and Health Promotion is accepting applications through April 22 for a graduate assistant marketing and communication coordinator. Compensation includes $13,500 for a work period of twelve months (June 2011 – June 2012), and a tuition waiver for the duration of the assistantship.

Work expectations include 20 hours per week, except those weeks classes are not in session during the Fall and Spring semester. Some travel may be required with this position (i.e., conference attendance, legislative presentations, etc?). All travel expenses will be covered by the Department. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required. Acceptance of this position indicates exceptional communication skills, the ability to develop meaningful social marketing campaigns that will influence behavior change, willingness to lead in the planning and conducting of focus groups and other areas in order to gather market research, and an overall understanding of health and wellness. More detailed duties and responsibilities are listed below.

Basic Expectations:

  • Abide by all University policies and procedures, as well as those outlined by the Director of Wellness and Health Promotion and the Assistant Vice President of WELL WVU. This includes regulations set by the Student Recreation Center and the Department of Residential Education, or any other facility where programming activities take place.
  • Attend all training sessions as required by the Director, unless prior approval has been given.
  • Comply with any departmental dress codes or professional appearance expectations, which are subject to change during employment.
  • Respect the diversity of the WVU community.
  • Treat all student information as confidential, both during and following employment.
  • Treat students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members with respect and care. If a problem arises, immediately notify the Director (or, if unavailable, the appropriate University staff member).
  • Provide program participants with complete answers to the best of your ability.
  • Serve as a resource and referral agent to ensure students’ needs are responded to appropriately.
  • Work as a team with all WVU faculty and staff to fulfill the duties of your individual assignments and to meet the expectations outlined.
  • Fulfill the duties outlined in the position job description, and meet reasonable verbal and written expectations given by the Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve on the Student Wellness Advisory Board and act as a liaison between the Board and the Department of Wellness and Health Promotion.
  • Fulfill the role of Secretary among the Student Wellness Advisory Board.
  • Attend weekly WELL WVU Wellness and Health Promotion team meetings and be prepared to report on progress of projects.
  • Plan and coordinate events as needed. Execute plans and delegate responsibilities to WELL WVU staff, graduate assistants, interns and/or volunteers as needed. Events may include Try-It, Student LOT, Wellness Week activities, etc.
  • Develop goals and objectives for effective social marketing campaigns. Campaigns will revolve around a monthly theme related to a health and wellness topic. Possible topics may include nutrition, sexual health, fitness, alcohol education, positive mental health, etc. Other campaigns will be developed as needed.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate social marketing campaigns including the utilization of market research to assess and prepare for potential campaigns.
  • Assist in the development of Wellcasts (video podcasts) to promote various prevention topics throughout the academic year.
  • Develop methods for evaluating the effectiveness of department social marketing campaigns, Wellcasts and events. Share observations with appropriate departmental and University staff and faculty. Recommend improvements or modifications based upon findings.
  • Assist in the dissemination of information and promotional materials to the appropriate venues.
  • Develop visually attractive display booths and bulletin boards to attend fairs in order to promote and raise awareness of WELL WVU and/or support certain programs.
  • Build and maintain a professional relationship with internal and external vendors including, but not limited to, the Daily Athenaeum, WVU Printing Services, Signs Plus, Morgantown Printing and Binding, etc.
  • Keep a log of accomplishment, including events, wellness programs and social media campaigns, as the school year progresses in order to present an Annual Report at the end of the year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, including—but not limited to—assisting other staff or graduate assistants with projects or tasks.
