SOJ student assists NBC in New York with coverage of Summer 2012 Olympics

The 2012 Summer Olympics may be over, but for television journalism junior Mike Martin it was an experience he won’t soon forget.

Martin, a native of Long Island, N.Y., spent the summer as an intern at WNBC-TV, the flagship station of the NBC Television Network in New York City. As part of his duties, Martin helped with the station’s coverage of the Summer 2012 Olympics. Some of his responsibilities included monitoring multiple events, editing highlights, doing research and updating scores and times for news anchors.

Martin started his three-and-a-half month internship with WNBC in May. He says the experience has changed him tremendously.

“Working with some of the most talented and hardworking people showed me how great you have to be to get to the top,” said Martin. “I’m more driven and experienced now than I was at the beginning of May.”

This summer was Martin’s second internship at WNBC-TV.
