Charleston Daily Mail editor and publisher Nanya Friend recently announced changes to her staff—including new roles for two SOJ alumni.
Jared Hunt, a 31-year-old Jackson County resident who has been covering West Virginia government news for the Daily Mail, will fill the business editor position. Hunt joined the Daily Mail in June 2010 after accumulating years of business and journalistic experience.
A Ravenswood native, he graduated summa cum laude in 2005 from West Virginia University’s Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in economics.
Reporter Shay Maunz is joining the Daily Mail staff. Maunz, 23, is a Clarksburg native, graduate of the WVU P.I. Reed School of Journalism and has been an intern at the Daily Mail as well as at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the New Yorker magazine.
She will be a general assignment reporter who also writes about health and medicine. She has an interest in multimedia, including video.
