D.C.-area media internship available

The Society for Human Resource Management, located in Alexandria, Va., is looking for a full-time intern to fill a paid internship slot this summer. The internship is full-time employment and pays $15 per hour.

The Public Affairs Department at the Society for Human Resource Management is responsible for ensuring that the public is informed about SHRM’s activities, research, and public policy positions. The Media Affairs Intern will be provided with an opportunity to work in a small but fast-paced communications office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The media affairs intern will assist SHRM’s three-person Media Affairs Office with requests from national news media, the HR trade press and the HR blogger community.
  • Gather news clips and monitor news and blogger coverage.
  • Produce weekly media relations metrics reports.
  • Assist with press interviews and press conferences.
  • Draft, edit and pitch news releases on a variety of workplace and workforce topics.
  • Provide additional support as assigned.

Also, the Intern will have the opportunity to participate in spokesperson training.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related major.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILL:

Strong writing and verbal communications skills required.
