Students currently enrolled in an American college or university, either as an undergraduate or graduate, are encouraged to enter the win-a-trip contest held by The New York Times. The winner will travel with Times reporter Nicholas Kristof to the developing world, write for Kristof’s blog, On the Ground, and be featured in some of the videos produced on the trip.
The contest was started in 2006 as a way to shed light on global poverty. For some of the winners, it has been life-changing, and HBO did a documentary called “Reporter” based on Kristof’s 2007 trip; it’s on Amazon if you want to see what you’re getting yourself in for.
To enter, you will need to submit an essay explaining why Kristof should pick you. You can watch a short video about the trip and enter the contest online.
