Important Information for SOJ May & August 2014 Graduates

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not eligible to graduate in May or August or if you have already graduated please disregard this e-mail.

Dear School of Journalism Senior:

Graduation season will be here before you know it, and the School of Journalism is already making plans! But first, we need you to take action! You will need to RSVP for the ceremony (if you plan to attend) and submit an official application for graduation (if applicable). See below for specific instructions.

RSVPing for the COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

The School of Journalism will host its annual May Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10 at 9:30 am at the Creative Arts Center. The school invites all May 2014 graduates to attend the ceremony. As a courtesy, the school also invites December 2013 and prospective August 2014 graduates to participate.

If you plan to attend the ceremony, you MUST RSVP by Feb. 14, 2014. The ceremony will be a ticketed event again this year, and ticket availability per graduate (e.g., 4-6) will be based on the number of responses to the online RSVP. The RSVP form and additional information are online at http://journalism.wvu.edu/about/featured-events/may-commencement-2014.

A separate ticket claim process will be announced later this spring. Only those graduates who RSVP to the ceremony will receive the link to the ticketing website.

Questions about the Commencement ceremony should be directed to Christa Currey at 304-293-7016.

APPLYING for GRADUATION

If you anticipate graduating in May 2014, you must complete the online graduation application by Feb. 14, 2014, to ensure an audit is completed before mid-semester courses begin. You are only considered a May graduate if you are completing all of your course requirements at the end of the spring semester.

If you anticipated graduating in December 2013 and did not graduate, you must resubmit the online application by Feb. 14, 2014. If you are completing your course requirements in the summer term and are therefore an August graduate, DO NOT complete the application at this time. You will be notified at a later date to apply for graduation.

All graduation applications must be submitted via the new online application process. This process is easy and efficient and should only take a few minutes. Paper graduation applications will no longer be accepted.
