Women's Press Club Gertrude Gordon Writing Contest for students from Western Pa.

INTERVIEWEES: 
• LESLIE MERRILL McCOMBS, a senior consultant for government relations at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, who has made three trips to Haiti to rescue 54 orphans from the BREMA orphanage aiding the McMutrie sisters from Ben Avon.
• DR. ROBERT SKERTICH, an assistant professor of public administration in Point Park’s School of Business, who led a group of 25 physicians, nurses and paramedics from the Pittsburgh area in staffing the temporary hospital in Petionville, just outside of Port-au-Prince, as part of the National Disaster Medical System

College Sports Feed seeks interns

College Sports Feed (CSF) has created two unique and exciting internship programs on hundreds of college campuses across the country. These internships will allow students who are interested in sports marketing and sports journalism a chance to excel and succeed. Ever since its inception, CSF’s team has pushed to develop the highest quality fan-generated sports site on the web. We are different from other online sports media in that our content is created 100% by the fans and for the fans. Our desire is that every college student get the chance to follow their dream and become a leader in their industry. We at CSF know that our two internship programs in sports marketing and sports journalism will be the spring board to success for all the students who are involved. Below are a few details:

CSF Campus Writing Program
The CSF Campus Writing Program is uniquely designed to allow students the opportunity to contribute to their schools sports content. Interns will be given the freedom to create unique blogs that showcase themselves and become the voice of their schools fan blog. Our unique 100% fan generated content creates a dynamic platform where writers can voice their opinion while building their portfolio. The Writer Interns are encouraged to promote their writing via social networking and word of mouth. Interns will receive direction from CSF’s creative staff and management team, who’s goal is to help the writers become the best they can be.

SOJ provides awards for internships and study aboard programs--Deadline April 30

Apply now for the SOJ’s Student Enhancement Awards!

The P.I. Reed School of Journalism is offering a limited number of cash awards to students who have secured major-market journalism internships or have been accepted in a journalism study abroad program in 2010. This includes all areas of study – advertising; public relations; and television, print or visual journalism. The awards will range from $500-1,000.

Online IMC master's program sees record enrollment

Graduate student by day, bail bondswoman by night, Carol Newman never fit the profile of a traditional scholar. But for the past two years, when she wasn’t staking out bail jumpers and appearing in magistrate court, Newman was working online toward her master’s degree.

Newman co-owns James River Bonding Company in Richmond, Va. Her job is demanding and her schedule is unpredictable at best. She needed a graduate program with the flexibility to allow her to keep working and maintain her hectic pace, all while teaching her the marketing skills to advance her business.
