Nonprofit environmental news organization hiring interns for summer 2013

Circle of Blue, a nonprofit news organization that reports about all kinds of topics relating to fresh water around the globe—for example, agriculture and food security, energy development and environmental policy is looking for a variety of interns for summer 2013.

All of the work is solely published online. They take editorial interns, graphic design interns, photography interns and research interns.

Make-up Day for WVU Career Fair

due to weather, several employers did not attend WVU’s Career Fair. A make-up day has been set for those employers on March 19 from 10 am -2 pm. These companies will be available to meet with students.

PR students launch Buy Local campaign in Shinnston, W.Va.

Six students from Dr. Rita Colistra’s public relations campaigns course teamed with Shinnston City Manager Debra Herndon and others to launch a “Buy Local” campaign in their town. The project’s goal was to raise community awareness about the importance and economic value of shopping at locally owned businesses.

The students traveled to Shinnston throughout the spring semester to conduct research, create promotional pieces and work with local business owners in developing strategies to encourage citizens from Shinnston and its surrounding communities to shop locally.

'WVU News' wins gold in international competition

The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals is honoring the Spring 2012 “WVU News” team with two Gold Ava Digital Awards for their work on Special Edition Newscasts. The winning newscasts were Protecting our Children, executive producer Caitlin Fitzgerald, and Your Voice Your Vote, executive producer Chelsey Corrotto.

AVA Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication. Work ranges from audio and video production- to developing websites that present interactive components such as video, animation, blogs, and podcasts- to interactive social media sites- to other forms of user-generated communication.

WVU Center for Black Culture and Research offers Black History Month events

West Virginia University’s Center for Black Culture and Research will be hosting events all month long to celebrate Black History Month.

“Our theme ‘Framing the Future, Embracing Our Past’ helps us to understand how important our history is as we move into the future,” said Marjorie Fuller, director of the WVU Center for Black Culture and Research.

Pearson Foundation and Atavist co-hosting Digital Storymakers Award for excellence in multimedia

The Digital Storymakers Award, co-sponsored by the Pearson Foundation and Atavist recognizes excellence in student nonfiction multimedia.

Grand prize winners will receive $5,000, and invitation to a two-day boot camp conducted by guest authors, and publication in a special Digital Storymakers Award App.

SOJ graduate to be honored as WVU Distinguished Alumnus

Graduates of West Virginia University have been making their mark on the nation and world for more than 145 years, including three extraordinary Mountaineers who will be honored by the University for their accomplishments.

Kyung Won “K.W.” Lee is known for bringing a voice to poverty in Appalachia, Korean immigrants, and other important national and international stories. Joel Newman has worked throughout his career to ensure our world’s food supply meets the needs of a growing global population while remaining safe for the consumers. Rouzbeh Yassini-Fard is a visionary who connected the world with the invention of the cable modem.

CampusSpecial.com seeks interns

The Campus Special is a college marketing firm based in Atlanta and Chicago. It was nominated by Intern Bridge as one of the best places to intern in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Campus Special is currently looking for 3-4 students for its paid summer internship program.

Student interns gain hands-on experience in account management, advertising, sales, customer service and marketing. Training will be provided at a 4-day, expenses-paid conference in Chicago.

WVU Office of Facilities seeks intern

The WVU Office of Facilities and Scheduling is seeking a School of Journalism student as an intern to work on an historical public relations project on the major facilities at WVU.

The Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain and apply research skills. Through the use of various research tools such as archives, interviews, books, periodicals, journals, newspapers and online research, the School of Journalism intern will engage in the gathering and organizing of historical building information which can be compiled into one historical record.
