Sportsnet New York seeks interns

Sportsnet New York is taking applications beginning in March for its summer internship program. This internship, which is unpaid and must be taken for school credit, is available to juniors, seniors and graduate students who have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.

The internship is designed to give students the real-world experience at a sports television network. Positions are available in production, news, marketing, programming and sales. Students will work 10-20 hours per week.

SOJ faculty member presents keynote address at patient-advocacy conference

SOJ senior lecturer Chuck Harman presented the keynote address, “Communicating the Lived Experience: Building an Effective Advocacy Program,” at the 5th Annual International Experience Exchange for Patient Organizations” in Zurich, Switzerland on March 5. More than 125 patient advocates representing 28 countries attended the two-day conference, which was translated into four languages.

The meeting offered patient organizations representing groups from oncology, hepatitis, mental health, rheumatoid arthritis and citizens’ groups an opportunity to hear from leading experts and share best practices on issues of stigma, building alliances, clinical research and disparities in treatment. Other speakers represented the University of Oxford, the European Brain Council, the Swedish Breast Cancer Organization, the Danish Association of Young People with Rheumatism, PanCAN Japan and Club 13 (Lithuanian mental health association).

The WVU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will sponsor its inaugural News Trivia Bowl this semester, pitting three-person teams in a quiz-show competition to test quick recall about current events.

Any three WVU undergrads can form a team to compete, and WVU-recognized entities (e.g., clubs, fraternities, sororities or majors) are encouraged to field teams.

fulfilling all manner of roles that include taking feeds from reporters in the field to weave into a definitive account or contributing to that coverage through interviews, research and contacts.

They need someone who is adept at handling an array of overnight assignments, both big and small, sometimes juggling several at once. A sense of urgency, speed, strong news judgment and a truly collaborative nature are key. So, too, is the ability to stay on top of news in both North Jersey and New Jersey so that he or she can jump into a developing story without missing a beat. And for those times when news isn’t hopping, we want someone who can find strong enterprise story ideas and execute them with
