WVU’s Commission for LGBTQ Equity is seeking one or more student interns (undergraduate or graduate) for the fall semester. Interns will earn 1 – 3 academic credits in Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST 491), based on approximately 3 hours per week per academic credit, from September through December. Duties will include, but may not be limited to, the following:
1) Develop and communicate information about events and activities associated with the Commission through their website and social media
There is an immediate position at The Western News in Libby, Montana. The position is for reporting but also includes other aspects, including editing and design. Candidate will write both quick turns and features. Libby is full of stories that need to be told and the newspaper is the main source of information for its citizens. The position is very hands-on and is full of potential for developing skills. Libby is a small town, formerly a mining and timber area, and the community is very close-knit. The area is close to the Cabinet Mountains, the Kootenai National Forest, Idaho, Canada and many, many rivers, creeks, reservoirs and lakes. The Green Team is looking for a volunteer to take on a significant role in an effort to expand Morgantown’s recycling program in the commercial business sector by working with a Green Team committee of citizens, businesspeople and city officials. This internship is being offered for one semester but may be extended up to a full calendar year. It will require a commitment of approximately 5 to 7 hours per week.
Responsibilities Include: – Attend and record minutes of all meetings arranged with representatives from the Green Team, City officials, local business owners, and the local collection company – Document the current status of commercial business recycling. i.e., what businesses are recycling, what items they are recycling, what businesses want to recycle but cannot, etc. – Provide informal weekly report to the City Engineering Office – Present oral and written report to the Green Team at its monthly meeting – Possibly draft/contribute to oral and written reports to the Morgantown City Council if the project warrants it
This year, WVU will participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program for graduate students, which helps veterans pay their tuition. With the major influx of thousands of parents and students descending upon campus, the Transportation and Parking office is gearing up for their return this week during the move-in process. In an effort to support the transportation needs to commute between campuses and minimize congestion, the PRT will resume operations a few days earlier than planned. Esper, a renowned journalist and beloved professor, was born and raised in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Esper, a 1953 WVU alumnus, began his journalism career as a student writing for The Daily Athenaeum and his hometown newspaper, the Morning Herald. He went on to spend 42 years with the Associated Press (AP), spending 10 of those years covering the Vietnam War. After retiring from the AP, Esper returned to his alma mater to teach in the WVU Reed College of Media in the spring semester of 2000.
